Overview

Tailored exclusively for alumni of the TERECONET Summer School in Educational Research Methods (TESS 2026), the TESS Research Grant aims to bridge the gap between educational theory and classroom practice. This grant provides seed funding and structured support to help alumni transform research proposals into impactful, practice-oriented educational studies.

Key Details & Grant Terms

• Grant Value: Up to 2,000,000 VND per project.

• Grant Duration: Valid for one (1) year from the date of award approval (all grant activities and funding cycles for the current cohort expire in June 2027).

• Application Mode: Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.

Focus Areas

The grant supports educational research initiatives that explicitly aim to connect theoretical insights with practical application in language teaching and learning. Priority is given to projects that address:

• Innovative pedagogical practices and classroom-based action research.

• Critical policy analysis and implementation in local contexts.

• Teacher professional development and reflective practice.

• Student engagement, assessment, and materials development in TESOL/Applied Linguistics.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the TESS Research Grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Alumni Requirement: At least 50% of the research team members (including the principal investigator) must be alumni of TESS 2026.

2. Scope of Work: The proposed project must focus on educational research in language teaching and learning that connects theory to practice.

3. Timeline: The proposed project timeline must fall within the one-year grant validity period ending in June 2027.

4. Funding Acknowledgement: Grant recipients are required to formally acknowledge financial and institutional support from TERECONET in any publications, conference presentations, or reports resulting from the funded research (e.g., “This research was supported by the TESS Research Grant awarded by the TESOL Research Collaboration Network (TERECONET).”).

Review & Selection Process

All submitted applications undergo a rigorous peer-review process conducted by members of the TERECONET Academic Advisory Board and invited reviewers. Proposals are evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Relevance & Rigour: Clear focus on connecting educational theory with practical application.

• Methodological Feasibility: Sound research design, clear data collection instruments, and realistic timelines within the 1-year window.

• Impact: Potential contribution to teacher development and the broader TESOL community in Vietnam.

• Budget Justification: Clear and reasonable allocation of requested funds (up to 2,000,000 VND).

Application Instructions

Applications are accepted continuously on a rolling basis until funds are fully allocated or until June 2027.
